Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Perioperative RN Leader to step into a Manager of Surgical Services role on a travel contract. This position oversees clinical operations, staff leadership, regulatory compliance, and patient safety within the OR and perioperative departments. Ideal for a confident leader who can quickly assess operations, support teams, and maintain high standards of care.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Provide oversight of perioperative services, including OR and related departments
  • Lead, organize, and manage daily department operations, staffing, and workflows
  • Supervise staff orientation, ongoing training, competency validation, and performance evaluations
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and corrective action in accordance with hospital policy
  • Promote a positive, professional, and accountable work environment

Clinical & Patient Care Oversight

  • Ensure safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care across all patient populations
  • Coordinate nursing care throughout the perioperative continuum
  • Maintain responsibility for patient safety in the operating room
  • Ensure proper care, sterilization, and storage of surgical instruments
  • Step in clinically when required and support staff during high-acuity situations

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with Title 22, OSHA, Life Safety Code, and Joint Commission standards
  • Ensure department alignment with AORN, ASPAN, and other perioperative regulatory requirements
  • Keep department policies and procedures current and ensure staff adherence

Fiscal & Resource Management

  • Assist with development and monitoring of department budgets
  • Promote cost-conscious supply and equipment utilization
  • Maintain equipment inventory and support capital planning and replacement

Performance Improvement & Communication

  • Lead process improvement initiatives and evaluate outcomes
  • Communicate department performance, trends, and needs to senior leadership
  • Participate in management meetings, planning, and hospital initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Active California RN license
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS (AHA required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years RN experience, including:
    At least 2 years as a circulating RN in Surgery
  • Prior leadership, supervisory, or management experience (strongly preferred)
  • CNOR certification (preferred)

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 35 lbs
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced surgical environment
  • Ability to supervise, delegate, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
